I was the 2024 investigative reporting fellow at the Flatwater Free Press, Nebraska's first statewide nonprofit newsroom dedicated to delivering high-quality journalism that serves the state’s diverse communities. As a fellow, I had the opportunity to report on a variety of topics, from religious real estate to city employee lawsuits and electric vehicle usage. I frequently filed public records requests, analyzed large datasets and conducted dozens of in-depth interviews.
After a year as a reporting fellow, I transitioned into a social media role, creating organic photo and video content across eight platforms. In just five months, I grew Flatwater's Instagram following by 66%, launched a TikTok account that reached over 2,500 followers, and helped establish the newsroom’s presence on Bluesky and Reddit. I also contributed to two successful marketing campaigns that brought in hundreds of new donors and newsletter subscribers.
